Everyone Has One….Right?
I’ve spent a little bit of time this week updating my personal website and portfolio. I’ve been struggling with how to lay things out and stuff so I spent a fair bit of time browsing other peoples sites for inspiration….that’s when it hit me!! Nearly all of the photographers I know have a website. In fact it seems almost everybody has a website these days.
I mean I’m obviously fairly involved in this site your reading right now, as is Paul, but we both have our own sites (mine ~ pauls) to showcase photographic work and handle what I guess you’d class as the business end of our photography. Likewise many of my contacts have either similar online portfolios of work or photographic blogs where they share their hobby.
So do you have one? What is the purpose of your site? Has it generated Clients? Is it just for Kicks? Drop a link in the comments so we can all take a peep.
If you haven’t got a website….what’s stopping you? there are plenty of photo blogging/sites and services available such as old favourites like wordpress.com and tumblr.com which offer free accounts and hosting and don’t require a degree in computer science to setup. If you are looking for inspiration check out our link section…We’ll add more to this list from the links you give us in the comments

This be my magnificent but humble photo blog.

I have a site for mostly personal publication, a platform for my rants – not to generate business, but more to keep up with the technology world, which is important in my “real” job, which isn’t being a photographer. I photography was my primary income source, my site would be a bit different – especially in the gallery area, where it is reading from flickr. I wouldn’t do that on a “company” site.

There you go!
I’ve got a Carbonmade Portfolio (here). It’s nothing fancy, just a place where I put my favorite photos.
My recent portfolio on my own site:

My Flickr site – has generated the most interest without active marketing.

My portfolio and current photo project are on http://www.sftnet.co.uk. Mostly just for fun, though there are links for visitors to buy prints and cards.
working on setting one up at the moment
I figured with somewhere to put them up online it will motivate me to shoot more and improve
I recently redeveloped my site and folios for a new push to promote myself as a new professional photographer: http://neilcreek.com/
I also write a photography blog where I talk about learning photography and my experiences as I move from being an amateur to a professional: http://neilcreek.com/blog
I have a portfolio that I update a few times a year.
here
I have a website Fourcrows.com that just serves as a holder for my other links at the moment. It gets enough hits that even as small as it is, it’s worth it to keep around.
I also have a blog Sneaking out at Midnight that is both a photo and chatty thing. I’ve found that past clients will go there regularly and people find me through it all the time. It’s definitely worked so far.
I also have a website at http://www.westyphotography.com
Any feedback more than welcome!

This is something I need to sort out. I have a blog which was for my 365 at starpixie.co.uk but I haven’t done anything since! Way too lazy!
I have a photoblog (which is a regurgitation of my flickr daily posts at the moment. http://www.geekgirly.ca
Thanks for mentioning mine in the article.
I used to write loads on it, but kinda gave up when I realised that I was rubbish at writing!
I don’t post to it very often and more – just the occasional photo treat for people who look beyond my flickr
I am kinda in this transition phase of becoming a full time photog. Currently studying Photography as some will know, but shooting a lot of commercial stuff in between things. I have found that I haven’t actually generated any jobs directly from my site, but when I get a lead or someone is interested in me doing some work for them, I then push them to the site. They can then decide if I am right for the job.
Coming from a Advertising and design background, photogs used to bring in their portfolios in person back in the good old days. These days, agencies are lead to their websites where the creative directors and designers can browse at their leisure.
So in my opinion it’s an essential part of being a pro photographer in this day and age. It may not actually generate clients on it’s own, but it seals the deal once you have made contact with a potential client.
You kindly used mine in your shot up above, but my site is http://www.nathanpask.com
Blogs are stupid… but don’t forget to stop by mine!

Seriously, I kinda enjoy reading blogs. My blog is useless nothing that I feel like writing about. I’m sure I’ll get sick of it, that nobody is reading it, and it’ll sit there for no reason.
I used to blog on http://www.xanga.com/dichohecho but I wasn’t very good at keeping it up. I find writing stuff in Flickr descriptions much easier. Hence my 52 Weeks http://www.flickr.com/photos/dichohecho/sets/72157606465530494/
